September 2025 Recap

September 2025 Recap

As September came to a close, River Rock Academy campuses reflected on a strong start to the school year. From hands-on projects to special guest speakers and community connections, students and staff celebrated meaningful experiences that set the tone for growth, learning, and success this fall.

Amity Campus
Students at Amity Campus attended the Oley Fair, a long-standing Berks County tradition. They enjoyed exploring exhibits, rides, and local history while connecting with the broader community. The event gave students both fun and a sense of belonging within their local culture.

Bradford Campus
At Bradford, students rolled up their sleeves to help a local business prepare for the fall season. Partnering with Shores Sisters, a nearby store and market, they unloaded shipments of pumpkins and mums. Their teamwork and effort made a visible impact in the community.

Carlisle Campus
Carlisle students took on the challenge of writing sonnets. Though some were hesitant at first, many discovered new creativity and confidence as they experimented with rhythm, rhyme, and structured language. This project sparked excitement for future writing assignments and helped students explore fresh ways of expressing themselves.

Here is an example of one of the sonnets:

It was a gloomy day,

Everything felt so alive.

All the large waves would sway,

I could just go for a dive.

As the pouring rain drenched my skin,

I could feel everything go dim,

I heard the loud thunder roar…

Only then BOOM, I hit the floor.

Head throbbing I came to,

What had I been through?

As the sky turned grey,

Everything seemed to decay.

I could feel myself get stuck,

But then I soon woke up.

Clifton Heights Campus
Clifton Heights launched a new birthday tradition this year, celebrating students with balloons and cards on their special day. Students also went for a walk to embrace nature as part of their Social Skills class.

Cressona Campus
Students at Cressona welcomed Magisterial District Judge Andrew “AJ” Serina for an engaging assembly. Judge Serina shared insights about his role, the challenges of his career, and the importance of responsible decision-making. Students were eager to ask questions and hope he will make another appearance someday.

Lancaster Campus
The Lancaster Campus reflected on the events of September 11 by visiting the 9/11 Memorial at Manheim Township Public Library. Students viewed a steel beam from the World Trade Center and learned about its symbolic design. The experience encouraged thoughtful reflection on the importance of remembrance and resilience.

Newville Campus
In Newville, students were recognized for positive behavior with an All-Star breakfast. Those who earned high TALID scores enjoyed a full breakfast spread prepared by staff. The students loved the breakfast and are already talking about what the next All-Star incentive may be!

Red Lion Campus
At Red Lion, senior student Nicole was nominated for the Spirit of Youth Award by the Central York School District. Nicole’s leadership, growth, and commitment stood out through her involvement in mentoring, internships, and teaching social skills. Her recognition reflects both her hard work and the support of her campus community.

Shiremanstown Campus
Shiremanstown introduced a new school store where students can redeem earned behavior tickets for items. Alongside individual incentives, a group reward system encouraged students to work together toward positive behavior. By September, three groups had already earned their food incentive.

Sinking Spring Campus
Students at Sinking Spring began Horse Farm Fridays, participating in equine therapy sessions at Lone Oak Horse Farm. The program fosters emotional growth, social skills, and resilience while giving students hands-on experiences with the horses. Many participants expressed how much they enjoyed and valued the time at the farm.

Spring Grove Campus
Spring Grove students welcomed guest speaker Jarred Smith, who shared his powerful story of resilience. Mr. Smith spoke about personal struggles, poor decisions that affected his basketball career, and the lessons he learned in moving forward. His honesty and openness gave students an authentic perspective on choices and perseverance.

Williamsport Campus
Williamsport began the year by welcoming a new Campus Director, Kenneth Tallman, and several new staff members. The fresh leadership and additions to the team have brought renewed energy to the campus, and both students and staff are looking forward to growth and new opportunities this school year.

With the first month of the 2025-2026 school year behind us, River Rock Academy is proud of the unique experiences across its campuses. From academic challenges to community connections and new traditions, September set a strong foundation for the months ahead.
