Meet John: Behavior Coach
As we begin our first school year in our new building in Bradford County, let’s get to know some of our incredible team members who make an impact on our students’ lives. John is a Behavior Coach who is dedicated to bringing stability and comfort to students who need it most.
What is your favorite thing about working at River Rock Academy?
I love that I get to be a big kid myself! I think that is helpful in building relationships and being present with the students. I also love that there are always new challenges and ways to support our students. The staff here are amazing as well. We all get along very well, and it is truly enjoyable to come to work each day!
How do you make an impact on students’ lives?
I try to be a light for these kids. Some of them come from rough situations. It’s extremely fulfilling to have a positive impact and be someone they can count on. I see the importance of being there for our students, especially those who may not have that kind of male role model in school or in their lives. I’m proud to be a part of that.
What does a “day in the life” look like for your role?
“A day in the life” at River Rock Academy is always different. One minute you might be a drill sergeant, the next minute you’re a shoulder to cry on. That’s what I love about this career though. What is important is that we as a staff seek to be the pillar that our students can trust and rely on.
Can you talk about your career trajectory and what led you to where you are now?
I started out at River Rock Academy when I was approached by Mr. Imbt about bringing me on as a Behavior Coach because he thought I had the talent that they were looking for. While I now have a positive influence on the lives of these students today, Mr. Imbt has also had an immense impact on my life. He was one of my coaches at Troy Jr./Sr. High School. His influence and teaching on work ethics, facing adversity, and helping others was one of the foundations that led me to now do that professionally.
What has been your proudest moment or accomplishment in your role?
I take a lot of pride in the support that both Mr. Vogel, Behavior Coach, and I provided for the Williamsport Campus of River Rock Academy. I think we had a positive influence look forward to supporting a new and growing campus.
What are you most excited about for your new location in Bradford County?
It’s very exciting to have a new building that is nicely set up and is more centralized within the county for the school districts that we serve and support.
What is a fun fact about you not many people know?
A fun fact about me is that I’ve been to two Metallica concerts. I’m a bit of a metal head. Sometimes you just gotta rock on!
